I Did a Book Signing!

So recently I surprised my buddy Patrick Hickey Jr. with a variant cover for his comic book Condrey! Patrick has been publishing his own book with artist Kieran Quinn about a gritty guy, Condrey, who is on the hunt for his fathers killer with Lesser Known Comics.

I first found out about Condrey through Patrick. He and I became friends after his appearance on The Basement Surge. After his book launched I had him and Kieran on my other podcast Basement Comix to talk about the creation process of a comic book and what went into bringing Condrey from concept to reality. It was a great episode, the guys were awesome!

After their appearance on Basement Comix, I got to thinking of just surprising them with my own variant of issue #0. So I sat down at the Cintiq and sketched one out. Of course I didn't like it. So I deleted the picture and started fresh. I knew my style was going to be completely different than Kieran's, he's more of a traditional artist. Where I am more comfortable, for now, drawing digitally. It took me almost two days until I was happy with the piece I did so I sent it to the publisher. They loved it and decided to print it along with all the other variants.

A couple days later I heard they wanted me to do a signing with them at Bulletproof Comics for Free Comic Book Day. I was so stoked to be a part of that. My daughter Ana had to go with me, she kinda thinks I'm a big deal now lol I got some Dad cred. She hung out all day wandering the store and talking to people she never thought she would. We got there at 11 am and there was a news reporter on the corner and a line out the door halfway down the block. I honestly didn't think it was going to be as big as it was. I only expected a handful of people but I signed so many books that day.

I'd like to thank everyone who made it possible for me to do the signing. You guys are amazing! This is only the beginning, so stay tuned for the next level.
